Lara - always giving and sacrificing for others ลาร่าผู้เสียสละและคิดถึงคนอื่นเสมอ

The day before Lara fell ill, she phoned to interview me about Burmese workers who are working as domestics in Thailand. She was doing some research in order to help these workers from being exploited.

Lara was admitted to the hospital a few days after that for leukaemia. I remembered that day very well because my heart was so devastated. My knees were shivering and I could barely hold back my tears from sadness for my niece. On the contrary, Lara bravely faced the bad news with no self-pity and carried herself with incredible grace.

Since Lara was facing a severe illness, it was disappointing to her that she could not continue this research. She phoned me up requesting that her colleague interview me instead of her.

Lara was born into a civic-minded family and was raised and taught to always think of others first. Sometimes I feel that this may have been a lot of pressure on someone as young as her. But in truth it has served her well. In the most critical moment of her life and referring to the #Match4Lara search for a stem cell donor, she says,

"Even if you can't save me, you can save someone else's life."

ก่อนลาร่าไม่สบายได้ไม่กี่วัน เธอโทรมาหาเพื่อขอร้องให้ช่วยให้ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับคนงานชาวพม่าที่เข้ามาทำงานตามบ้านในประเทศไทย ด้วยเธอทำการศึกษาในเรื่องนี้เพื่อช่วยไม่ให้คนเหล่านี้ถูกเอาเปรียบ

หลังจากนั้นไม่กี่วัน ลาร่า ถูกนำเข้าโรงพยาบาลและค้นพบว่าเธอเป็นโรคมะเร็งเม็ดเลือดอย่างชนิดร้ายแรง จำได้ติดตาในวันนั้น หัวใจแทบสลายด้วยความสงสารหลาน ขาสั่นและแทบกลั่นน้ำตา

ไว้ไม่ได้แต่ลาร่ากลับเผชิญกับข่าวร้ายอย่างกล้าหาญ ไม่แสดงความสงสารตัวเอง ไม่โวยวาย เพียงเก็บความตกใจไว้เงียบๆ

ด้วยโรคที่ลาร่าเป็นนั้นร้ายแรงนัก ทำให้นึกไปว่าน่าเสียดายที่เธอคงต้องพับการทำวิจัยเรื่องนี้โดยปริยาย แต่เปล่าเลย.......เพียงไม่กี่วันลาร่าสามารถทำใจกับความเจ็บป่วยของตัวเอง เธอโทรมาหาขอให้เพื่อนร่วมงานมาสัมภาษณ์เรื่องนี้แทนเธอ

ลาร่าเกิดมาในครอบครัวที่เสียสละ โดนสอนให้คิดถึงผู้อื่นก่อนตนเองเสมอจนบางครั้งเราจะรู้สึกว่าเธอยังเด็กนักและโดนกดดันมากเกินไป

แม้ในวาระที่เธอป่วยมาก ด้วยต้องการได้สเต็มเซลล์เพื่อช่วยชีวิต ลาร่ายังพูดเสมอว่า "ถึงแม้ช่วยลาร่าไม่ได้ แต่ก็ยังอาจช่วยคนอื่นได้"

เราภูมิใจในตัวเธอมาก เธอจะอยู่ในหัวใจของพวกเราตลอดไปถึงแม้ว่าจะหา "เข็มในมหาสมุทร" ได้หรือไม่ได้

เราเชื่อในบุญกุศลและปฏิหาริย์นั้นมีอยู่จริง
